Spring Statewide Meeting
DCOM's spring statewide meeting took place on May 2 at the Doubletree Hotel in Westborough
from 9:00 to 3:30.

Besides recognizing this years
Programs of Excellence, we will also had an interesting keynote
address titled "
The Promise of Stem Cell Biology" given by Amy J. Wagers, Ph.D. Amy is an
investigator in the Section on Stem Cell and Developmental Biology at the Joslin Diabetes Center
and Principle Faculty of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute.

At this meeting DCOM recognized three Programs of Excellence (POE). Every year the Diabetes
Coalition of Massachusetts recognizes outstanding programs that contribute to the field of
diabetes prevention, education and management throughout the Commonwealth. Criteria include:

1. A demonstrated contribution to the field of diabetes prevention, education, and/or management
2. Initiatives that are innovative, multidisciplinary and could serve as models for others.
3. Demonstrated outcomes, or a measurement of direct or indirect impact. New for this year,
DCOM is pleased to award a separate Students Projects of Excellence (SPrOE).
